John was elected to represent the 13th District of Kenosha County in 2016. Since then, he has served on the following committees: Finance and Administration, Judiciary and Law, Legislative, Planning Development & Extension Education (PDEEC), and Public Works/Facilities. He has served as Vice-Chair for the Legislative, PDEEC, and Public Works/Facilities Committees. He has also mentored several students in the Youth in Governance Program.
John holds two masters degrees–-one in Philosophy from Trinity International University and the other in Educational Leadership from Northern Illinois University. He also earned a BA in Religious Studies from California State University at Northridge. For 30 years John worked in education as both a college instructor and a high school social studies teacher. At the college level, John taught Philosophy, Religion, Ethics, and Humanities. His many high school subjects included AP Government, Economics, U.S. History, Western Civilization, Philosophy, and general Social Science and Humanities courses. In addition to teaching, John led his AP Government classes in state congressional hearings, as well as sponsoring student-led congressional forums. John was also selected to be a Teaching Fellow at the Center for the Study of the Constitution at the University of Wisconsin- Madison.
Outside of his job and the county board, John works to support local communities in various ways. He has served as the President of the Horizons Homeowners Association for 19 years, overseeing the budget and working with others to enhance the local neighborhood. He is a longtime member of the Palette Masque and Lyre (PM&L) Community Theater where he has taken many roles as a board member, committee member, actor, usher, and crew member. John is also an enthusiastic supporter of local organizations such as CUSH, the Kenosha Symphony, the Shalom Center, and the Sharing Center, to name a few. John has also been a strong advocate for voting rights, serving as a special registration deputy and as an election poll worker. John is married to his wife Jennifer, with whom he shares a love of reading, travel, walking, working out, music, movies, and animals. They have one son and two cats.
All of these life experiences have taught John the value of listening, asking questions, working with others, thinking logically, keeping an open mind, and striving to solve problems. He looks forward to applying those skills for another term as the Kenosha County Board District 13 Representative.
